Orientation registration will begin February 2, 2009.
We offer two summer orientation programs, CTOPS (Carolina Testing and Orientation Program Sessions) for first-year students, and TSOP (Transfer Student Orientation Program) for transfer students.
Each program has a schedule for students and for parents/guests. For more information about the program schedules, please refer to the menu on the right.
Failing to register by the respective deadline date will result in a $50 late registration fee.
CTOPS (First-year students) - May 29 by midnight (EST) **Note: Waitlisted students must register by July 1 to avoid a late fee.
TSOP (Transfer students) - July 31 by midnight (EST)
Program Fees All participants pay a fee to attend orientation. The fee covers all related costs of conducting a comprehensive orientation program, such as housing, meals, testing, administration, materials, and staffing.
CTOPS Fees Student: $160 One Parent or Guest over 17 years of age: $95 (NOTE: This fee does not include campus housing for parents)
Each additional Parent or Guest over 17 years of age: $80 Guests 6 to 17 years of age: $35 Guests 5 years of age and younger: No fee
(If your parent/guest selects to stay on campus, the room fee per night is $68, which is in addition to the $95 CTOPS fee.)
TSOP Fees Student: $75 Parent or Guest over 17 years of age: $60
Guests 6 to 17 years of age: $10 Guests 5 years of age and younger: No fee
Refund Information
Requests for CTOPS and TSOP registration refunds will only be considered before May 1, 2009 and registration fees are nonrefundable after May 1, 2009. Orientation registration refunds must be submitted in writing and will be considered on a case-by-case basis. In submitting your written request, please explain your reason for seeking a refund and include the student’s PID number. Please note there is a $20 processing fee for all refunds. Written refund requests may be sent by one of the following ways:

3. mailing a written request to Office of New Student & Carolina Parent Programs, Suite 3318 SASB South, Campus Box, 5490, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-5490.
2009 Dates All dates are available on a first-come, first-served basis. When making travel plans, please plan to be at CTOPS until 5:00 p.m. on Day 2.
CTOPS (First-year): June 1-2 July 13-14 June 4-5 July 16-17 June 8-9 July 20-21 June 11-12 July 23-24 June 15-16 July 27-28 June 18-19 July 30-31 June 25-26
August 20-21 (For international students or others who can not attend any other session due to scheduling conflicts.)
First-year students are required to stay in orientation housing (Cobb Community), unless they are attending CTOPS in August. At that session, students will move directly into their fall housing assignment.
Any transfer student attending the June TSOP may choose to stay in campus housing before or after the June TSOP; however, it is not required. Please note there is an additional fee for students to stay on campus before or after TSOP and this information is noted on the registration form.
Parents/Guests choosing to stay in campus housing for CTOPS or TSOP will be housed in Everett or Stacy Hall. Please keep in mind that this is a typical college residence hall with double occupancy rooms, all of which share a community bathroom. Each room is air-conditioned and contains two twin beds. Towels and sheets will be provided; however, you should bring your own blanket. We CANNOT accommodate parents in campus housing during the August TSOP session, as students will be moving into their assigned rooms for the year.
